Lois Bigelow Bacon papers, 1872-1982; bulk: 1927-1945.

Papers of economist Lois Bigelow Bacon include letters and typescript copies of letters written to her family pertaining to a trip to Germany, Finland, and Denmark to conduct research for her unpublished report, "The Folk High Schools of Denmark," 1927-28; time spent in Rome, Italy where she worked for the International Institute of Agriculture and co-wrote a book with Friedrich C. Schloemer entitled, "World Trade in Agricultural Products;" and life in Arlington, Virginia, where she worked for the United States Department of Agriculture, in Washington, D.C., 1940-41. Letters include descriptions of sights seen in Europe, international political and economic observations, notes on her report, her work at the IIA and her book, her work at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, time spent with friends, social occasions, and family affairs. Also includes letters received by Lois from her sister Isabel L. Bacon Lafollette, 1938-45, pertaining to her life with husband Philip Fox Lafollette, governor of Wisconsin, their activities in the Progressive Party, and her work as editor of the newsletter "The Progressive Women." Also, correspondence and a resume of Lois's father State Engineer of Utah George Morgan Bacon, 1925-31; photocopies of a diary kept by Lois's grandfather, an educator and former Union Army officer from Massachusetts, Lorin Low Dame, 1873; a story probably by Lois's sister Barbara Bacon about a trip they took to Israel, 1978; and a Dame family genealogy.
